There’s nothing quite like the dawning of spring: better weather, more time outdoors, and the perfect time of year to get things in order with an annual spring clean.

At Horizon Platforms, March marks the start of one of our busiest periods for the Maintenance Department as this is when we have the largest proportion of our fleet of work at height platforms back in the depot, making it the perfect time of year for a full scale ‘spring clean’. When it comes to work at height, safety is our watchword and a planned and thorough inspection and testing programme is essential to ensure all our powered access platforms are safe to use; without it, serious injury and even death can occur.

£3million investment supports Horizon growth plan

As part of Horizon Platforms’ commitment to quality and safety, I’m delighted to announce a £3million investment to support our ambitious five-year growth plan.

By far the largest proportion of the money – a £2.2million capital injection – will pay for new equipment to expand our existing 700 strong hire fleet and ensure customers have even more quality access platforms to choose from. An additional 160 new specialist powered access platforms – cherry pickers, scissor lifts and personnel lifts – are being brought on board, primarily for use in the indoor maintenance and installation sector.

Is it safe to use my Access Platform in windy weather?

Every machine has different restrictions and limitations when it comes to wind speed.

With weather conditions hitting hurricane levels in parts of the UK this week, the last place you should be in these particular conditions, is in a cherry picker or scissor lift meters from the ground.  Outdoor machines are all rated to specific wind speeds which are stated in the operators manual and usually on a decal close to the control box.  Sometimes access platforms have varying restrictions dependent on the number of persons and quantity of tools in the basket, as well as when working indoors.
